Skip the Lid, Savor the Moment
A small choice. A shared moment. A ripple effect.
Skip the Lid, Savor the Moment is a grassroots movement rooted in one simple idea: small, everyday actions — repeated over time — can create meaningful impact. By choosing to skip a plastic lid when possible, people reduce single-use plastic and slow down long enough to savor the moment. It’s not about perfection — it’s about participation. Small waves make big waves.
How it started
Skip the Lid began as a simple, real-world action tied to EcoStiks’ core belief: behavior change happens when sustainability feels easy, human, creative, and repeatable. One coffee at a time, people began choosing “no lid,” starting conversations, sharing stories, and realizing that small actions can spread — especially when done together.

Impact
Single-use plastics are designed for convenience, not longevity.
Once used, they often end up in landfills, waterways, or the ocean
breaking down into smaller pieces that persist in the environment.
Skip the Lid focuses on source reduction,
preventing unnecessary plastic use before it happens,
while helping shift what feels “normal” in daily routines.
Billions
Single-use items like lids, caps, bags, and straws are handed out billions of times each year,
making them some of the easiest plastics to eliminate at the source.
30–50% less plastic
“Upon request” policies for items like bags, straws, and utensils have consistently
reduced usageby 30–50% or more
in cities, campuses, and businesses that adopt them.
Daily habits win
Behavior-change research shows that small, repeatable actions outperform one-time efforts —
especially when the action is visible and socially reinforced.
