Small Waves Make Big Waves Podcast
The Podcast About Real People Creating Real Change—
One Small Action at a Time

Big change doesn’t usually start with massive funding, viral moments, or policy shifts. It starts with one person noticing something small—
and choosing to do it differently.
Small Waves Make Big Waves is a podcast that highlights real people and grassroots organizations creating meaningful environmental and social impact through simple, realistic, everyday actions—the kinds of actions most of us can actually do.
This podcast was born from watching movements like "Skip the Lid, Savor the Moment" take shape. What started as one small choice—saying no to a plastic lid—sparked conversations, community participation, and measurable reduction in single-use plastic.
Not because it was loud or extreme, but because it was accessible.
Why This Podcast Exists (The Gap It Fills)
There are many podcasts talking about climate change, sustainability, and social impact.
Small Waves Make Big Waves is different. We don’t focus on what’s broken. We focus on what’s working—right now, on the ground.
Each episode spotlights:
• One person or organization
• One specific action or initiative
• One ripple effect that others can realistically replicate
Small, intentional choices that add up when more people participate.
What You’ll Hear in Every Episode
Listeners will hear:
• How an idea actually started (not the polished version)
• What worked—and what didn’t
• The unexpected ripple effects
• One or two clear takeaways they can implement
Whether it’s skipping a lid, rethinking packaging, creating a local initiative, or changing how a community shows up—
these are micro-actions with macro impact.

How the Movement Works:
Skip the Lid is built on a two-pronged approach:
The individual choice:
Participants choose to "skip the lid" when possible and share the action with others — creating awareness through everyday behavior.
The point-of-service shift:
Coffee purveyors are encouraged to change the default from automatic lids to: “Would you like to skip the lid today?” or “Lids available upon request.”
This small change helps make sustainable behavior easier and more accessible.
